Minecraft 1.21.120.25 Beta

Minecraft 1.21.120.25 Beta — the developers released a new test build for Android, bringing a long-awaited improvement for server owners. The headline news — a completely revamped backup system in Realms. The team also fixed 9 bugs, boosting game stability. Let’s break it down.

Realms — a new saves system

The most important change in this update concerns Realms. In short, the new “Realms Saves” system is an evolution of the old “backups,” not a full overhaul. Previously, automatic copies were made at the end of a session (when shutting down the server) and about every 30 minutes during play, stored for a limited time per retention policy, and didn’t count toward cloud quota — this remains the same for “Automatic Saves.”

The key difference — the arrival of “Manual Saves”: I create them myself, they live as long as my Realm lives, and they have a clear quota — 10 GB in Realms Plus and 5 GB in Realms Core. It’s also convenient that old backups have “moved” to automatic, and automatics can be converted into manual if I need to pin an important point and not fear that rotation will “eat” it.

If you, like me, enjoy experimenting with maps and add-ons, this really gives more control: I decide which progress points should be “untouchable,” and which can spin in automatic rotation.

Automatic Saves

  • Created every 30 minutes of a play session or when the server is shut down.
  • Stored for a limited time.
  • Do not take up your cloud storage.
  • Enabled by default for convenience.

Manual Saves

  • Created manually by the player at any time.
  • Persist exactly as long as your Minecraft server exists.
  • The server owner can turn any automatic save into a manual one.
  • All saves are easy to find in the Realms settings menu; they include world names and add-on info.

What this means for you

  • Survival world: You can now easily save key milestones — for example, before a big expedition or major build. Experimenting isn’t scary anymore: the needed world state is always at hand and won’t vanish on a schedule.
  • Server with friends: If something goes wrong after a fun party — you can always roll back only to the manually saved version without risking accumulated progress. The server owner now fully controls restore points for the whole team.
  • Testing add-ons and maps: For Minecraft creators, the new system enables “clean starts” for each test and keeps important worlds safely in long-term manual slots. It’s also easier to track which packs and settings a save used.

Bug fixes

This patch closed 9 issues that affected gameplay comfort. Here’s the full list of improvements:

  • Bundle contents no longer delete themselves when placed in storage with filled slots above a Hopper.
  • Fixed particle lighting when using Vibrant Visuals mode.
  • Improved key behavior on the hotbar.
  • Mouse wheel scrolling no longer works if the game window is inactive.
  • Fixed terrain disappearing or changing after saving in previous versions.

For content creators and modders, 2 technical changes were added to simplify add-on development and testing of new mechanics. In the end, update 1.21.120.25 is focused and useful. The new saves system in Realms in my personal opinion gives you more control and peace of mind over your worlds, and the targeted fixes make the exploration process more stable.

When installing the Beta (test) version, it is advisable to make backup copies of the worlds
