The core gameplay revolves around meeting your character’s basic needs: hunger, thirst, fatigue, and health. Imagine it’s past midnight — a thunderstorm rages outside, puddles flood the yard, and by morning, your food supplies are nearly gone. You’re forced to take a risk: throw on a soaked raincoat and grope your way through abandoned streets, trying to stay quiet and avoid attracting the attention of zombies whose silhouettes flash in the lightning. Your heart races, as even the smallest scratch or hypothermia could lead to illness, and a random noise — to an encounter with a horde of the undead.
Such situations require planning, attentiveness, quick environmental analysis, and careful use of found resources. You’ll constantly need to search for supplies, food, water, and safe places to rest. The world around you is full of dangers, not just from the walking dead. A cold from wet clothes, food poisoning from spoiled meals, or a deep wound can be fatal. Every resource run — is a carefully planned operation where one mistake could cost you your life.
Progression in a World Without a Future
The character progression system allows you to adapt to harsh conditions. At the start, you choose a profession and a set of traits that provide initial skill bonuses and impose certain limitations. Further development depends on your actions:
