Minecraft 26.40.05 (Bedrock) - Well, it finally happened. The developers rolled out the full Android version, and this is the exact third 2026 drop we’ve been waiting for. I already jumped in, ran through the new forests, sat on a cushion (yes, you can do that now), and put together a proper human review for you. No dry patch notes — just my impressions, findings, and a bit of grumbling.
Let’s go step by step.
Variegated Forest
I’ll start with the main thing, because this biome alone makes the update worth launching.

What matters:
- Generates in cold biomes;
- Abandoned Camps spawn inside it;
- Poplars, Shelf Mushrooms, and Red Shrubs grow here;
- The biome fog is now tuned like other forests — before it felt off, now it blends in naturally.
An orange-red forest against the sunset — honestly, one of the most atmospheric sights in Bedrock in years. I actually just stood there and stared. On top of that, the developers fixed the poplar leaf textures (red, yellow, and orange) and added opaque versions of the leaves — some devices used to show a black background, now it’s clean.
It’s a cold biome, so it won’t appear everywhere. You’ll have to do some searching. But maybe that’s a good thing — rarity adds value.
Abandoned Camp
A new structure that makes the world feel more alive.

Features:
- Appears in most forest biomes, including the Pale Garden and Flower Forest;
- Each variant depends on the biome where it generated;
- Inside are Chests and Barrels with loot;
- You can find a Straw Bed;
- Procedural trees now generate around the camp — it looks more natural;
- The developers fixed incorrect potion names in the loot tables.
Poplar
A new tree type, and it’s gorgeous. Properties:
- Grows in the Variegated Forest;
- Multicolored foliage — red, yellow, and orange shades;
- Saplings can be bought from the Wandering Trader;
- Shelf Mushrooms and fallen leaves appear around it;
- New ambient leaf sounds were added — a nice little touch.

Red Shrub
A new plant that’s easy to miss.
Basics:
- Appears in the Variegated Forest;
- Works in the Composter;
- Using Bone Meal on a neighboring block grows another shrub;
- It got custom sound events.
Shelf Mushrooms
This is where the developers played with details, and I like it.

Interesting bits:
- Grow on Poplars and fallen Poplars;
- Two sizes: large and small;
- The small one turns into a large one when Bone Meal is used;
- The large one drops two Mushrooms;
- Used in Stew;
- Can be bought from the Wandering Trader;
- They bounce slightly when you step on them.
Poplar Wood
A new wood block set.
- Light gray shade;
- Pairs perfectly with Pale Wood;
- Full block set like other wood types;
- The door has a special pattern;
- The door and sign were fixed: hinges were added to the door icon, extra pixels were removed, and the sign texture was adjusted to match the overall style.
Wool Slabs and Stairs
New Wool blocks were added. More details:
- Wool can now be crafted into Wool Slabs and Stairs
- Abandoned Camps are built from these exact blocks
- Missing slab and stair recipes were added
Cushion
- A new item that makes you want to refurnish your whole house. Main properties:
- Can be placed on any flat surface;
- You can sit anywhere;
- Doesn’t move;
- Breaks if the supporting block is removed;
- Has no collision mechanic — it can overlap other blocks (but not other cushions);
- Crafting: 3 Wool Slabs (some sources said 6 — in reality, you only need 3).

Important note. Cushions do not generate in Abandoned Camps yet. But you can easily get them from the creative inventory.
I love this. Furniture without mods — that alone will earn a separate thank-you from the builder community. The fact that cushions have no collision opens up a ton of decorative tricks.
Straw Bed
A new type of bed with interesting logic.
More details:
- Skips the night but does not change your spawn point;
- Can be used once and then disappears;
- Cannot be used in the Nether or the End (or it breaks) ;
- Crafting: 3 Hay Bales — and you get 4 beds at once.

A brilliantly simple idea. How many times have I accidentally changed my spawn point with a regular bed and then cursed about it later? Now there’s a disposable option: sleep through the night — and your respawn point stays where it was. And the fact that 3 hay bales give you 4 beds basically makes them a consumable. For trips and exploration — perfect.
There’s exactly one downside - it’s single-use. But honestly, that’s the right call for balance.
Bug fixes
The update lists 182 changes and fixes (plus a bunch of technical tweaks for add-ons). I dug through the official patch notes and pulled out the most important bits for regular players.

What was fixed:
- Structure loot no longer differs on the same seed — this used to openly annoy seed-hunting fans;
- Book and Quill from old worlds (before 26.30) no longer hard-freezes the game;
- Arrows of Harming no longer bounce off mobs and now disappear properly on hit;
- A crash during Iron Golem spawning (when more than one appeared) was fixed;
- Touch scrolling in the creative inventory is responsive again — on phone, that’s critical;
- Split-screen players can access the game settings again;
- Block-breaking sound now comes from the center of the block rather than the corner — small detail, but nice on the ears;
- Azalea and Flowering Azalea no longer show through when viewed from below;
- Brown and red mushrooms can no longer be placed outdoors in darkness, but they now grow properly on Nether Nylium at any light level.
For this — real respect. New biomes and cushions are nice, but it’s fixes like these that make the game better to play every day. I was especially happy about the touch-scroll fix in the inventory: on phone, that bug genuinely made me suffer. And identical loot on the same seed is a small but meaningful win for players who like planning their run.
Should you update?
Absolutely yes. Drop 3 2026 is not just “they added another forest.” The only rough edge is that cushions still don’t spawn in camps yet. But that’s a known issue, and it’ll almost certainly be fixed.
