Hey friends! This isn’t just a story, it’s a full-on psychological thriller starring me — all for science (and, okay, a bit for the hype!). My mission: find out what happens if only one player stares at the Screecher while the other looks away. First thought: “Surely it’s not that simple!” Honestly, the anticipation made me uneasy — terrifyingly interesting and just plain scary.

We headed out at night to perhaps the creepiest biome — the Pale Garden. Your heart starts pounding on its own: mystical vibe, shadows everywhere, the Screecher’s heart glowing eerily on a pale oak branch, and next to it — him, tall and grim, the Screecher. Even my partner wasn’t joking, which says a lot.

The test: Gaze vs. nature

We began with the basics — both of us locked eyes on the Screecher. Staring at a monster like that is its own kind of fun: his eyes glow, and he stands there like a statue, as if powered off. I caught myself thinking: what does he think of me? Like in a horror flick: you keep looking, but you’re afraid to step back. Anyway, for the experiment I’m all in.

On three, my friend turned away, and I kept drilling the Screecher with my gaze. My heart was racing, like something was about to happen. A second passes — silence. Another — the Screecher doesn’t budge. Stands there, doesn’t even blink. I started sweating: “This can’t be, where’s the catch?” Turns out his magic is this: one gaze is enough. If at least one player keeps him in their sights — the Screecher won’t move. It hit me: this mechanic is a co-op fairytale.

My feelings: I almost jumped for joy

Not gonna lie, when I got it — I literally jumped! What a relief! No more both of us needing to “hypnotize” him or fearing a teammate’s accidental yawn — the Screecher won’t attack as long as one of us “controls” him. It’s a straight-up lifehack for any Pale Garden run. Now we can coordinate freely: one “hypnotist,” the other breaks the Screecher’s heart without worrying about threats.

Non-obvious little things

While testing, I noticed — when night falls and no one’s around, this monster becomes the center of the universe. Totally different from just reading about him. You’re there, spooked, but curiosity wins. By the way, repeat it with a bunch of players — same result: someone looks — the mob is fully frozen.

Pros and cons of this mechanic (and the mob)

Pros

  • Teamwork and tactics! Easy to “save” the world together by coordinating actions.
  • Gameplay is not just scary, it’s engaging — strategy kicks in.
  • The mob responds fairly to player actions, no random bugs (at least, I didn’t hit any).

Cons

  • Sometimes it’s too easy if the team is tight. A bit more challenge would be nice.
  • Harder solo: keep him in sight or — hello, jumpscare!
  • After a few runs, the novelty dips — the mechanic is solid, but surprises are few.

Conclusions and my personal insights

This experiment was a real eye-opener for me! I find the mechanic brilliant and very co-op friendly. No more fear of hanging around the Screecher as a group; just don’t zone out and watch each other’s backs. Honestly, after this I’m excited to see what they come up with in the next updates!

What do you think about the Screecher? Got your own lifehacks or tried even harsher experiments? Drop a comment! I’m dying to hear your stories and theories — maybe you’ve come up with something cooler than my experiment. Don’t be shy, share!
