Does lava heat evaporate a sponge’s moisture through a dripper in Minecraft?

Hello, experimenters and everyone who enjoys unexpected twists in Minecraft! Ever get a crazy question that won’t let go until you test it in-game? That was me today. I was playing and suddenly thought: “What if drippers can dry a wet sponge, and water ones, on the contrary, soak a dry one? Makes sense, right?” Honestly, sometimes I feel like a researcher with a world made of cubes for a lab.

Building the test rig

I’m doing this properly! So I set up an experimental bench (or stand, if you like):

• I place two drippers (stalactites) side by side for a fair test — no tricks.
• Above the first, I carefully place a lava source through a Dripstone block. By-the-book Minecraft, no shortcuts!
• Above the second — a water source, also by the book.
• Below the lava stalactite — I place a wet sponge. Great chance to see if lava drips evaporate the excess moisture.
• Under the water one — I put a dry sponge. How not to hope that the “shower” soaks it instantly?

And there I sit, drilling the screen with my eyes — tracking every drop. A detective in the blocky world!

Observations: Where’s the magic, Minecraft?!

To be honest, I expected something big. Lava is hot — why wouldn’t the sponge dry out? Water drips — come on, game, show a little miracle! I waited about ten minutes (which is a lot in Minecraft terms). Against all guesses and expectations:

• The wet sponge under the lava dripper stayed wet. I think it even got mad at me.
• The dry sponge under the water dripper didn’t get wet at all. What gives?

And here’s the takeaway: even if the logic seems obvious, Minecraft loves to surprise and doesn’t always behave the way you want.

Subjective impressions: More drama!

Honestly, the result bummed me out a bit. I pictured myself revealing another “Minecraft secret” to everyone! But sometimes even the wildest ideas end like this — with a big fizzle. Still, the process was something else! Interest in the game only grows when you keep running into the unexpected.
