![White and Fluffy Nightmare: The Full Story of the Killer Bunny in Minecraft]()
We continue our deep dive into the secrets of the cubic world. In the article "Hidden Treasures of Minecraft: Part 2 — More Secrets from the Developers", we briefly mentioned a creature that looks harmless but can destroy an unprepared player in mere seconds. Today, we will take a detailed look at the story of one of the most dangerous and legendary secret mobs in the game — the Killer Bunny of Caerbannog.

Where did this creature come from?
Unlike many other easter eggs, the Killer Bunny — is a direct reference to a classic of British cinema. Its inspiration comes from the famous monster in the comedy "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" (1975). In the film, King Arthur's knights encounter a small white rabbit guarding the entrance to a cave, brutally dispatching anyone who dares to approach.
Mojang developers, known for their love of geek culture, couldn’t pass up such an iconic character. Adding this mob to the game was a tribute to the cult film and an excellent way to introduce an element of surprise to an otherwise peaceful update.

The story of its appearance and disappearance
The Killer Bunny was added to the game in the same update as regular rabbits — in version 1.8 (The Bountiful Update), released on September 2, 2014.
Initially, it could spawn naturally in the world with a very low chance (1 in 2500). This meant that an unsuspecting player could wander through the forest, see a cute white rabbit, approach to feed it a carrot, and suddenly find themselves in a deadly trap.
However, over time, the developers decided that such a surprise might be too cruel, especially for new players. In later versions, the natural spawn of the Killer Bunny was removed. Now, this creature has become a true secret, accessible only to those who know how to summon it.
Technical characteristics: small but deadly

Visually, the Killer Bunny looks like a regular white rabbit, but with one important detail: its eyes are not vertical and pink but horizontal and blood-red.
The characteristics of this "monster" are impressive:
- Health: It has more health points than most regular mobs.
- Damage: On hard difficulty, it deals significant damage, comparable to a zombie’s strike with a diamond sword.
- Speed: It moves much faster than regular rabbits and players, making escape nearly impossible.
- Aggression: The rabbit attacks any player within a 16-block radius, as well as wolves (even tamed ones).
How to encounter the legend today?
In modern versions of Minecraft (Java Edition), encountering the Killer Bunny without using cheats is impossible. To summon it, you need to enter a special command in the chat or a command block:
/summon rabbit ~ ~ ~ {RabbitType:99}
This command creates a rabbit of type 99, which is the code for our aggressive friend. Fun fact: if you rename a name tag to "Toast" and apply it to the Killer Bunny, it will gain the Toast texture but retain its aggressive behavior, making it an even more surreal opponent.
Legacy and impact
The Killer Bunny has become a favorite among creators of adventure maps (CTM maps) and server administrators. It is often used as an unexpected mini-boss in narrow corridors or as a treasure guardian, playing on the contrast between its cute appearance and deadly danger.
This easter egg perfectly illustrates Minecraft’s philosophy: the game can be both adorable, creative, and, when you least expect it, truly dangerous and fun.
In future editions, we will continue to uncover secrets hidden in the game’s code and learn more about the mysterious "11" disc and the language settings that turn the game into a pirate adventure.
