The wandering trader is a peaceful villager mob that roams the world in search of players. He’s easy to recognize by his blue cloak, white shirt, and two guard llamas on blue leads. Unlike regular villagers, he has no permanent home — he simply travels around offering goods for emeralds. The trader does not attack the player, but his llamas may spit at you if you try to attack them.

When and why was he added to the game?

The wandering trader was added in Java Edition 1.14 and Bedrock Edition 1.11 in 2019 as part of the «Village & Pillage» update. • If a trader is already present in the world, a new one will not spawn.

The trader does not avoid the player, but if threatened, he tries to run away. At night, he drinks an invisibility potion — so if you don’t find him before sunset, you’ll have to wait until morning.

The main value of this mob is his inventory. The trader offers 6 random trades from a large pool that includes:

• Rare plants and saplings: cactus, bamboo, lily pads, various flowers, and vines.
• Sea creatures: tropical fish and corals.
• Rare blocks: for example, blue ice or cyan glazed terracotta.

Seeds: beetroot, pumpkin, melon, and others.

Prices range from 1 to 5 emeralds per item, and many players consider them overpriced. That’s a fair point: some of these items can be found on your own.
