Hey, experimenters! Today I dove into one of those ideas that just won’t let go. My first thought after the 1.21 update was: what if a firework and a Wind Charge collide head-on? In my mind it was an epic elemental duel—boom, sparks, madness! Honestly, I expected something incredible. But reality, as often in Minecraft, turned out more prosaic—and more interesting.

Building the duel arena

To test my hypothesis, I couldn’t just fire randomly. I needed a clean experiment. I built a full redstone setup: two dispenser rigs facing each other. With observers and repeaters I got perfect sync so they’d fire at the exact same moment. I loaded a regular firework in one dispenser, and a freshly obtained Wind Charge in the other. I set a decent distance to enjoy the show. Everything was ready. My heart skipped in anticipation.

Moment of truth and… anticlimax

I flip the lever. Both rigs spit their projectiles at once. The firework rocket hisses toward the bluish puff of wind. They close in… and just pass through each other! No explosion, no sparks, no collision. They flew by like two ghosts, not even noticing one another. That was something! My epic mental battle shattered into pixels.

I didn’t give up. I tried again: moved the rigs closer, shot with a crossbow, launched several charges in a row. Same result. They just ignore each other. Most likely they’re different “entity” types in the game with no collision physics between them. The rocket is an item, while the Wind Charge is a projectile with special properties.

Does it matter?

It seems disappointing, but it’s useful in practice. In PvP you can’t shoot down an enemy Wind Charge with a crossbow firework. And vice versa, a gust of wind won’t knock out your rocket used to boost elytra flight. However, if the charge hits you instead of the rocket, controlling your flight becomes nearly impossible — that’s where the real fun begins!

To repeat this little experiment, just make a flat area, place two dispensers, and wire them with redstone to a single lever. That’s enough for a basic test. My verdict: no epic duel happened, but it wasn’t a waste of time. Sometimes knowing what doesn’t work is as valuable as knowing what does.
