Stress-testing endermen in Minecraft

Hey everyone! It’s me again with my Minecraft experiments aiming for a Nobel. Honestly, the first thought I had when I saw the “Gust of Wind” enchantment on a mace was: what if I try it on endermen? These pointy-eared guys seem to do everything: dodge arrows, snowballs don’t touch them either. But will their teleport work against a powerful shockwave? I just had to test it! Spoiler: it blew my mind.
Preparing the experiment
I made a superflat world, built a tall platform, and started like a real scientist—except my “lab” was a wind-blast–enchanted mace and a stack of enderman spawn eggs. I’ll say it upfront—I was a bit on edge, because I had no idea what to expect. I figured, since endermen teleport from almost anything, they’d blink away here too, right?
A hit near the target
I spawned the first poor guy, climbed higher, and slammed the mace about two blocks from him. And then—I was shocked. The enderman not only didn’t teleport, he actually got launched into the air by the wave! He took damage, smacked into the ground, and still stayed put. I honestly didn’t expect that. I was sitting there mouth agape—my brain refused to parse how this new mechanic tosses these sprinters around.
Unlucky direct hit
Second try I went for a direct hit—and of course I missed! Landed on the block under the enderman’s feet, ate full fall damage (nice one, me), and my “test subject” didn’t even blink. He just looked at me like I was an idiot and stood there—classic enderman.
My take: endermen don’t react at all to the mace’s shockwave. It’s like they don’t consider it a threat and don’t bother teleporting; they just eat AoE damage. Totally unexpected! I was sure they’d vanish again, but nope—this time physics was on my side.
TL;DR and a tip
Bottom line: endermen don’t dodge the mace’s shockwave—and that’s a gem of a find! The “Gust of Wind” enchant works great, especially if, like me, you don’t love meleeing endermen and tense up thinking they’ll disappear.
Pro tip: if you meet an enderman, don’t aim straight at it—hit the nearby blocks. The damage still lands, and you won’t be waiting on a teleport. Honestly, this flipped my approach to these guys 180 degrees.
How are your enderman-plus-mace adventures? Let’s talk in the comments! Did I miss something? Or maybe you’ve had an even more epic fail than mine? Don’t be shy—share!
