Hi everyone! Today I’m back as a mad scientist, and this time I came up with what I thought was a brilliant idea. One thought kept spinning in my head: what if I combine a super-powerful mace with a Slow Falling potion? Theoretically, that should make top-down attacks completely safe. No more silly deaths from missing! I brewed a couple of potions, climbed my test tower, and prepared for scientific breakthroughs that I believed would change the Minecraft world.

Dive like an eagle, hit like a sparrow — why it’s like this in Minecraft

A feather instead of a hammer

The first stage was simple. I drank the potion and jumped from three blocks high. It felt strange: I drifted down slowly, almost gracefully, like a feather in the wind. Landing on the head of a test warden, I struck. Honestly, the result was laughable. The damage was the same as a basic poke, with no hint of the mace’s crushing power. What a sight. I turned the scariest weapon into a harmless club.

More height — more disappointment

Maybe it’s the height? I climbed to five, then ten blocks. Same result. The slow, smooth descent completely killed any fall-damage bonus, because the game apparently doesn’t treat this kind of gliding as “falling” in the usual sense. No momentum, no speed — no damage. I even tried using elytra with the potion, but that didn’t help either. The dive turned into a lazy air glide. Sure, aiming became insanely easy, but what’s the point if you have to hit ten times to down a single mob?

When is slowness good?

So is the Slow Falling potion completely useless for the mace? Not quite. I found one use: training. If you’re just learning jump attacks, this potion helps you nail the hit timing right before landing without risking a splat. It can also help you move safely through Trial Chambers to secure a good elevated position. But right before the attack, be sure to drink a bucket of milk to remove the effect and restore your mace’s former power.

For maximum damage, stick to classic Jump Boost potions or slime blocks. They give the height and speed you need, pairing perfectly with the Density and Breach enchantments.

So that’s my failed but very instructive experiment. Have you tried any weird mace combos? Share in the comments what crazy ideas came to your mind.
