![Vex in Minecraft: the little nightmare that flies through walls]()
You enter a woodland mansion, everything seems under control — and then a chilling sound rings out, the air fills with blue shadows, and a swarm of vicious creatures dives at you straight through the walls. Meet the vex, one of the most annoying mobs in Minecraft. Small, fast, and nearly impossible to catch. Where does it come from, and how do you deal with it? Let’s break it down.

Blue demon with a sword: what is a vex?
A vex is a small flying creature with bluish skin, glowing red eyes, and a tiny iron sword. About the size of a baby zombie, it looks almost cute — don’t be fooled. A vex darts around, dives, and swerves with a completely unpredictable path. That chaos is exactly what makes it such a headache for any player.

Not born, but summoned: where does a vex come from?
A vex does not roam the world on its own — it is summoned by an evoker, a grim illager spellcaster. You can meet this puppet master in only two places:
- In a woodland mansion — a rare structure that is not easy to find.

- During a village raid — if you enter a settlement with the «Bad Omen» effect.

Before the attack, the air is split by an icy sound — a warning of the threat to come. A second later, a whole swarm of vexes appears out of nowhere around the evoker. And they do not hesitate for a moment.
Scheduled chaos: why is this swarm so dangerous?
The vex is the perfect distraction weapon. While you are trying to fend off the blue shadows, the evoker calmly prepares the next strike. In raids, the picture gets even darker: vexes attack everyone in sight — both the player and the village’s peaceful residents. Holding off the wave without losing the settlement is not a task for the faint-hearted.
Killing vexes for loot is almost pointless: you get only 3 experience points for killing one. The iron sword drops only with the «Looting III» enchantment, and even then with just an 8.5% chance. The only real reason to kill them — is to survive.
Through walls and fire: how the vex breaks the rules
This is where the vex becomes truly unique. It has several abilities that break the usual game mechanics:
Total phasing. A vex flies through walls, blocks, lava, and fire without a scratch. Traps, fences, shelters — none of it works against it. Minecraft physics simply do not apply to this mob.
Unexpected strike. Don’t let its size fool you — this little thing can hit hard. Every blow from its iron sword hurts more than you expect. When there are several vexes, your health bar melts at an alarming speed.
Built-in death timer. Between 30 and 119 seconds after spawning, a vex starts taking damage from within — it literally falls apart. Its body turns red, signaling that the end is near. Its health pool is modest too — 14 points (7 hearts), and it cannot restore them. If you do not kill it yourself, nature will do it for you.

Why even experienced players hate the vex
Among players, the vex has long become a symbol of chaos and ruined raids — and for good reason:
- It appears suddenly and in a group, giving you no time to prepare.
- Its chaotic flight makes hitting it with a bow extremely difficult.
- It passes through any obstacle — there is nowhere to hide.
- Several vexes at once can wear down even a well-armored player.
The best tactic is simple: keep your sword ready and take out the evoker first. As long as the dark mage is alive, the stream of vexes will not stop. Remove the source of the threat — and the chaos will start fading at once.
Don’t underestimate the little one
The vex is living proof that in Minecraft, size does not matter. Tiny, semi-transparent, and armed with a pathetic little sword — it can turn a confident raid into total chaos in seconds. Meeting an evoker and its blue army is not just a fight, but a test of nerves and reflexes.
