Hello to all fans of the blocky world! Today I decided to answer a question I’m sure many of you have wondered: what happens if you jump down onto the Happy Ghast from above? Do you pass through like a ghost, or land on it? Honestly, my first thought was: “Alright, here comes an epic flight through textures straight into the void.” But I’m here to risk it for science!

What happens if you fall on the Happy Ghast? In Minecraft

Prep for the big jump (no safety)

As a responsible experimenter, I prepared. First, I built a tall tower—my personal launch pad. Second, I decided to go all-in and wear no fall protection. Why? For experimental purity, of course! Also, I was overconfident.

Next, I needed a “test subject.” I went to the Nether, found a “Dried Ghast” block, took it home, and gave it a water treatment. It was quite a sight: watching a tiny ghastling emerge from the fossil! To avoid waiting forever, I started pelting it with snowballs—turns out that speeds up growth. Soon an adult, good-natured Happy Ghast was floating before me. I even crafted a lead for it, but decided not to use it yet for the experiment.

Three, two, one... and the death screen

The moment of truth arrived. I’m on top of the tower; below, my new flying friend floats calmly. Heart pounding. I step forward and… I’m falling! A thousand thoughts race by: “What if it gets scared and flies off?” “What if I crush it with my weight?” Reality was harsher and more instructive.

With a dull crunch, I landed right on its back and… died. Yes, you heard right. The ghast turned out to be completely solid, like a stone block! Fall damage applied at full force. My character died, and that unpleasant message popped up. At least now we know the truth: a ghast is not a trampoline.

Pros and cons: what we learned at the cost of my life

Despite the sad outcome, the experiment yielded a lot of useful info. Let’s sum it up.

Pros:

  • Solid platform: You can stand on a ghast like on a normal block. It freezes and aligns to the cardinal directions, creating an ideal platform for sky builds.
  • Aerial logistics: With a lead, a ghast can tow boats and even large mobs. This opens new options for farms and transport.
  • Friendly nature: It doesn’t shoot fire and isn’t aggressive, making it a great companion (as long as you don’t dive onto it from height).

Cons:

  • Lethal risk: Jumping from high up onto a ghast without fall protection = guaranteed death. It doesn’t cushion damage.
  • Vulnerability: The ghast isn’t protected from fire or lava, so flying in the Nether requires caution.
  • Limited range: It always stays near its “home” point, so it’s not ideal for long journeys.
  • Temporary platform: As soon as you dismount, it “comes alive” and can drop anything you placed on it.

Your turn now! What crazy experiments with the Happy Ghast should I try next to redeem myself? I’m waiting for your most creative ideas in the comments
