Mission: Drown a Ghast The underwater show of the year! In Minecraft

Hello, cubic friends! Ever get a totally crazy idea in your head and just can’t resist? Honestly, after I first rode a Happy Ghast, my first thought was — what if I try to drown this giant air jellyfish? A ghast is from the Nether — it’s probably only heard of water in nightmares. What if we try? Long story short, your experimenter couldn’t sit still anymore — time to act!
How to lure a flying monster into water: field hacks
So I booted up Minecraft Bedrock Preview with experimental features — habit, you know. I create a new world, exhale (a bit worried for the ghast) and summon our hero right on the lake shore. It floats like nothing’s happening, and I’m already itching: let’s see how “happy” that label really is!
The plan, briefly: get the ghast into the water and see what happens. Funny enough, the big guy balked at first — I had to use a boat with a lead, set up glass partitions, and splash around myself. If anyone had seen it, they’d 100% think I built a ghast attraction of unprecedented silliness.
Diving in: panic, bubbles and… DRAMA!
Now, the moment of truth. I managed to soak the Ghast — literally! As soon as that snow-white body was fully underwater, the real show began: bubbles from its mouth, that signature gurgling sound all around, and our Happy Ghast suddenly didn’t look so happy. It started twitching, thrashing, and a damage bar popped up right over its head.
Honestly? I didn’t expect that either! I sit there, hypnotized: the ghast ricochets across the lake, bubble fountains everywhere, and its health melts before my eyes. It works just like on mobs that can’t swim — it actually suffocates. A few seconds later — goodbye, ghast: a splash, a little boom, and no trace… except a couple of tears and the memory of that very experiment.
The experiment continues: different depths, different modes
To be sure, I repeat under a few conditions: shallow water, deep pit, Creative and Survival. The result is the same — as soon as the Happy Ghast is even a bit underwater, it starts losing health and dies fairly quickly. Obvious conclusion: water for this guy is that very Nether nightmare come true!
A few tips and unexpected thoughts
- Want to experiment? Build near a lake; dragging a ghast with a lead and a boat is easiest.
- I don’t recommend leaving your pet unattended — if it dives by accident, bye-bye happy face!
- I was sure Nether mobs shrugged this off easily — turns out, not so simple.
Impressions and questions for you!
That was something else! Honestly, I rooted for our poor Ghast until the last bubble, but science is ruthless. I’m glad I ran this experiment myself and now know for sure: “happy” doesn’t mean “unsinkable.” Have you tried drowning unusual mobs or seen unexpected behavior? Let’s share in the comments! Maybe next time we’ll check if the warden floats.
