![Can you get a baked potato from a burning zombie? In Minecraft]()
Hello again, everyone! It’s me, your faithful explorer of the cubic world. Today I’ve got something completely crazy and at the same time brilliant. Recently, while mining and pondering the eternal (i.e., food), a wild thought hit me: we know zombies sometimes drop potatoes. But what if you set the mob on fire before its final blow? Will it drop it raw or… baked? Honestly, I was sure it was just a funny theory, but curiosity won. I decided to run a full (almost) scientific experiment in Minecraft and find out the truth!
Preparing for “high-temperature” contact
To keep the experiment clean, I took it very seriously. First thought: “You need the right tool and a safe place.” I didn’t want a creeper to meddle with my research.

Here’s my modest setup:
- Tool of science: Diamond sword with Fire Aspect I. Nothing extra, just pure flame.
- Test range: I fenced off a small flat area near my base. Key condition — wait for night so our “subjects” deign to appear.
- Hypothesis: If the zombie is burning at the moment of death from a fire sword, any edible loot it would drop is automatically cooked. Sounds logical, right?
Field tests: Fire, zombie, and potato!
When night fell, the fun began. I went to the range and waited. Didn’t take long — soon the first candidate appeared on the horizon, shuffling slowly with those signature groans.
The process:
- Step 1: I let the zombie come closer. The adrenaline spiked — it’s an experiment, after all!
- Step 2: One precise strike with my flaming sword. The zombie ignited like a torch and ran around in panic. It looked, frankly, hilarious.
- Step 3: A couple more hits, and the mob, engulfed in flames, burst into a puff of smoke. Moment of truth.
Heart pounding, I rushed to where it fell. And what do I see? Among a handful of rotten flesh lies… a single, perfectly baked potato! That was something else! My crazy theory turned out true!

Pros and cons of “fiery farming”
Let’s see if this method is worth the candle (or the fire swords).
Pros:
- Time and resource savings: No need to run to the furnace and burn coal. Dinner cooks right during the fight!
- It’s just fun: Setting mobs on fire and getting ready-to-eat food — a new level of gameplay.
- Effective against crowds: Fire Aspect deals extra damage, handy against multiple foes.
Cons:
- Inconsistency: The chance of a zombie dropping a potato (or carrot) is quite low. Not a reliable food source.
- Fire risk: If you’re fighting in a wooden house or a forest, you might start a big fire. Be careful!
- Requires enchanting: You’ll need an enchanting table and some luck to get “Fire Aspect.”
So, I officially confirm: if you’re too lazy to go to the furnace and you’ve got a zombie and a flaming sword at hand, a tasty dinner is guaranteed. The main thing — believe in science and a bit in luck!
