Mojang has released Minecraft 26.2 Snapshot 7, and it is one of the most notable test updates in recent times. This snapshot does more than fix bugs: it adds several major systems at once, including a friends list, Peer-to-Peer multiplayer, new music content, and a range of changes for the sulfur caves biome and the Potent Sulfur block. For players, this is an important step: Minecraft Java is becoming more convenient for co-op play, while the 26.2 world feels richer in both atmosphere and mechanics.

Minecraft 26.2 Snapshot 7 review

Why this snapshot matters

The main idea behind the update is to make Java Edition more modern and more welcoming for regular play with friends. In the past, joining a world often required LAN, a server, or manual setup. Now Mojang is clearly moving toward a simpler shared-play experience. At the same time, the developers continue expanding the Chaos Cubed theme with new music, visual changes, and improvements to the sulfur caves. As a result, this snapshot affects three things at once: convenience, atmosphere, and stability.

Friends list and a new social layer

The biggest addition is the Friends List. The new section is available from the main screen, from the pause menu, and can be opened with the O key. Inside are two tabs: one for current friends and another for incoming and outgoing requests. Players can send requests by profile name, accept them, decline them, or remove friends.

The system shows friend statuses: Offline, Online, In a world, and In a joinable world. This is very useful: now it is immediately clear who is simply online and who can already be joined. Notifications for requests and status changes have also been added. For co-op fans, this is probably the snapshot’s biggest improvement, because communication and joining the game have become noticeably easier.

Peer-to-Peer multiplayer instead of old LAN

Alongside the friends list, Mojang has added Peer-to-Peer multiplayer. A single-player world can now be opened not only to a local network, but also to friends online. The old Open to LAN screen has been replaced with the new Multiplayer Options menu.

There are three modes available there: Off, Local, and Online. If Online is selected, friends can receive invitations to the world or send requests to join. This significantly lowers the barrier to co-op play. In essence, Java Edition is moving closer to the convenience many players have wanted for a long time. For players, that means less time spent dealing with settings and more time surviving, building, and exploring.

New music and the Chaos Cubed atmosphere

Snapshot 7 greatly expands the game’s musical side. A new music disc, “Bounce” by fingerspit, has been added to the game. It can be found in minecart chests inside mineshafts located in the sulfur caves biome. When played in a jukebox, the disc outputs a comparator signal with a strength of 8.

In addition, the game now includes five new background tracks: Memories, Ebb, Home, Shores, and Nightly. The sulfur caves also received their own biome-specific music. This makes exploring the new areas more memorable. Players get not only mechanics, but also mood: 26.2 locations now feel more cohesive and alive.

Potent Sulfur and gameplay changes

The Potent Sulfur block has also been significantly reworked. The eruption and cooldown timing of geysers now depends randomly on the block’s position. If there is lava beneath it, an eruption can become continuous, though with a quieter sound. Poison gas now passes through some non-solid and waterlogged blocks, and eruptions can launch creatures even through non-colliding objects.

This makes the sulfur caves more dangerous, but also more interesting. Players will need to think more carefully about movement, protection, and building safe routes. In addition, the grass color in sulfur caves has been changed — it is now less green, which better emphasizes the biome’s gloomy atmosphere.

Fixes and conclusion

The snapshot fixes 25 bugs, ranging from crashes during old world upgrades to problems with shaders, Vulkan, shulkers, wardens, and sulfur cubes. This is a good sign: Mojang is not only adding content, but also polishing the technical side of the version.

Overall, Minecraft 26.2 Snapshot 7 looks like one of the most content-rich snapshots of the 26.2 cycle. It makes the game more comfortable for friends, strengthens the Chaos Cubed atmosphere, and improves stability. If you have already tested the update, now is the perfect time to discuss it: what did you like most — the friends list, the new multiplayer, or the fresh music?
