  • Minecraft Snapshot 26.3: «Dappled Forest», poplars, and abandoned camps

Mojang has released the first snapshot for Minecraft Java Edition version 26.3 — and it brings players the long-awaited autumn atmosphere. At the heart of the update are the new «Dappled Forest» biome with vivid poplars, mysterious abandoned camps, and fresh building blocks. If you enjoy exploring new corners of the Overworld or simply building beautiful structures, this snapshot is well worth your attention. Let’s go through the key highlights step by step.

Minecraft Snapshot 26.3: «Dappled Forest», poplars, and abandoned camps

The «Dappled Forest» biome

The main star of the snapshot is the brand-new «Dappled Forest» biome. It generates near cold Overworld regions and brings the exact autumn aesthetic the community has been asking for for so long.

At the center of the biome are poplar trees, which appear in three leaf color variants: red, orange, and yellow. Each tree type comes with its own matching falling leaf particles, making the forest feel truly alive and atmospheric. Poplar leaves drop saplings that randomly grow into any of the three variants, and the saplings can also be traded from the Wandering Trader. Their trunks are made of poplar logs, which can be crafted into an entirely new wood block set.

Besides trees, the biome is also filled with other plant life:

  • Shelf Mushroom — a new type of mushroom that grows on poplars and fallen logs. It comes in two sizes, and the small one can be grown into a large one with bone meal. A curious detail: it gives a slight bounce, like a bed, complete with its own distinct sound.

  • Red Shrub — a decorative plant that appears in small groups. It can be used in a composter and spread to nearby blocks with bone meal. Importantly, it keeps its color even when planted in another biome.

In the «Dappled Forest», familiar passive and neutral mobs spawn — sheep, chickens, cows, pigs, rabbits, and foxes, including cold variants where applicable.

Abandoned camps: a new structure with a story

Another major addition in the snapshot is Abandoned Camps. This is a new structure type that generates across many different biomes: from regular forests, taiga, and swamps to savannas, meadows, Cherry Groves, and Pale Gardens. In total, nearly twenty biomes can feature them, and each has its own unique camp variant styled to match the surroundings.

The special charm of these structures lies in their atmosphere. Who set up this camp? Where did its inhabitants go? Their abandoned look practically invites players to invent their own stories. And to make exploration even more rewarding, the camps contain chests and barrels with useful loot. It’s a great reason to set out on a new expedition.

New blocks and opportunities for players

Snapshot 26.3 is good news not only for explorers, but for builders too. The main addition here is wool stairs and slabs for every wool color. This gives players much more flexibility when creating roofs, furniture, interiors, and decorative builds. As a bonus, like regular wool, these blocks dampen vibrations — which makes them useful for anyone building near the Warden.

There are also a few smaller but welcome touches. For example, suspicious stew and regular mushroom stew can now be crafted with any two mushrooms, including the new shelf mushrooms. On top of that, the developers fixed an impressive list of bugs — from items teleporting while being reeled in to incorrect command messages.

Overall, this snapshot opens up plenty of new possibilities: a bright autumn biome for beautiful screenshots and builds, mysterious structures for exploration, and fresh blocks for creative projects.

What’s next?

Snapshot 26.3 is a confident step toward a more lively and atmospheric Overworld. The «Dappled Forest» with its multicolored poplars, intriguing abandoned camps, and practical wool blocks make the game more diverse for both explorers and builders. And don’t forget: this is a test version, so be sure to back up your world before installing it.
